The Mondiale

Deja Vu Audio

  • Mondiale is a compact system we developed when Ferrari won the 2000 F1 championship. Mondiale is actually the Italian word for "world championship". It is a 2 way system based upon two extended range of 16 cm and a bullet super-tweeter. The cross-over is a classical 12 dB/octave.

It has a measured sensitiveness of 94 dB/1w/1m. The bass tuning is a mini-Jensen developed by me: to my knowledge it is the smallest Jensen tuning ever put in production in the world. It is J-2001 style.

The cabinet is not plywood like our biggers systems but MDF (indeed very rigid and heavy): the weight is around 12 Kg. The size of the cabinet (standard and limited) is: 32x43.5x25 (depth) and the tweeter exceeds the 43.5 cm by about 10 cm. The size of the center channel cabinet is: 47x33.5x 25 (depth) and the tweeter exceeds the 33.5 by 10 cm. There is only one finish available with synthetic leather (same supplier and material of BMW) and "rovere" hard wood for the sides (I don't know the name of this wood in English: it is a clear wood, not the one in the picture which is painted darker, very common in north-east of Italy and Austria). My intention - being an enthusiast Ferrari fan - was to celebrate the event... you know I also sold one pair of my speakers to Ross Brown and delivered it to Maranello (I'm serious, this is true)... Seriously, Ferrari is a clear demo of what the right Italian can achieve... definitely not only spaghetti, history and fashion!

Another reason why we named it Mondiale is for its performances which are really unique or "extremely competitive" at the price. It is intended to represent a more affordable alternative to our Trio/Quartette range: you can see it from our price list. It is a kind of system very suitable for young people and young music: it really "rocks" much more then Trio and Quartette whose strengths are more on the absolute accuracy of timbers.

You can also drive them very loudly without any problem. S.A.P. is not capable to design and to market lower priced systems: this is not our mission. Another strength of Mondiale is that it is capable to give voice even to very expensive (very fine) sources and amplifiers. In other words you can start with a simple system purchasing Mondiale and once you will replace either the source or the amplifier you won't be forced to replace the speakers.

We also offer a "center channel" version of Mondiale, which has to be placed horizontally and has a special wide dispersion horn tweeter instead of the bullet. This is offering a perfect match, timber wise and dispersion wise, of the center channel with the two main front channels of an home teather system.

Please notice that none of Mondiale is shielded, so use them only with projectors... In 2001 ‚ after Ferrari won again ‚ we developed the "limited edition" of Mondiale. It is the same design of the standard type with a different bullet tweeter: actually the best we use, the same used for J-2001. The limited edition is supplied with two "corks" which can be inserted in the Jensen ports (see picture) and which are useful to tune the bass response of the cabinet in different listening environment.
